Bethany Shorb - Artist

After receiving her MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, product designer, visual artist, and performer Bethany Shorb has called Detroit home for over twenty years. Her visual art and product work have been exhibited in the US and abroad and included in numerous public and private collections. Her musical projects have performed across North America including the Guggenheim Museum and Detroit’s Movement Festival. As a co-founder of OmniCorpDetroit, Detroit’s first makerspace, Shorb is a proponent of Detroit's re-invention through the hands of artists, engineers and entrepreneurs. 

Shorb has been featured on the Martha Stewart Show, PBS Newshour, HGTV, WIRED, Boing Boing, io9, Refinery29, National Geographic Traveller, The New York Times, USA Today Modern Woman, Road and Track Magazine, Grazia France, Le Figaro, Time Out New York, Time Out Chicago, US Air Magazine, Automobile Magazine, Make Magazine, Mixmag, Resident Advisor and more. She has exhibited since the inaugural Maker Faire Detroit and World Maker Faire New York, receiving seven Editor’s Choice Awards, and served as a curatorial collaborator at Gallery Project, Ann Arbor’s leading non-profit venue for challenging contemporary art. Shorb was a visiting artist in printmaking at Summit Series, has shown at the Luciano Benetton Foundation Small Works Series at the Venice Biennale and completed time as an artist in residence at the Red Bull House of Art Detroit for their 7th Cycle of artists. In 2018, Shorb was named Detroit’s Regional Ambassador for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, an international initiative that alleviates poverty by empowering, celebrating and supporting women in business worldwide. In 2019 Shorb has dedicated time to working with Homeless Homies charitable foundation serving the Homeless population in both Detroit and LA. She now splits her time between her Detroit and Los Angeles workshops.
